Helen McPherson, Consultant

Helen McPherson joined FMP in 2005, following research positions at The University of Texas and The George Washington University. She has over three years of experience in management consulting for the public sector. In her brief consulting career, she has gained a wealth of experience in human resource management and organizational assessment and development. Her specific professional expertise lies in organizational analysis and development, job analysis and classification, competency-based HR solutions, selection and placement, survey design and analysis, training and development, and performance management.

Most recently, Ms. McPherson served as a key member of a team that conducted a comprehensive organizational assessment of the Farm Service Agency. This assessment resulted in an in-depth analysis of key organizational components, specific recommendations for change, and suggested steps to implement the most pressing recommendations. Ms. McPherson is currently working with the National Science Foundation to revise and institute a Foundation-wide staffing planning process. Since joining FMP, Ms. McPherson has worked with both small and large agencies. Her clients have included: the Farm Service Agency, the National Science Foundation, the Internal Revenue Service, the Navy Facilities Engineering Command, and the Army Research Institute.

Ms. McPherson is currently a doctoral candidate in the Industrial and Organizational Psychology program at The George Washington University. Her research interests lie in personnel selection, individual differences, and performance management. Ms. McPherson has presented her research findings at the annual conference for the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), the leading academic society in the field.
